Honda Launches A New Bike STUNNER

Honda Launches A New Bike STUNNER

It is expected to be a 125cc four stroke motorcycle and would feature a half fairing like Hero Honda Karizma Design wise CBF Stunner is exactly the same motorcycle, which was displayed by Honda at AutoExpo 2008. As you can see in the photograph below (click to enlarge), is has the same fairing, tail lamp cluster, rear set footrest, exhaust, duel suspension setup and even the clear lens turn indicators This bike would come as a breath of fresh air into the 125cc segment which is at this moment, dominated by motorcycles with bikini fairing. If Honda manages to price it right, it could give a stiff competition to other motorcycles in its segment.

While there is no doubt CBF Stunner is a looker, we also hope that Honda launches something similar to the CBF Racing Concept Motorcycle they had displayed at AutoExpo 2008, and which is loaded with goodies like petal disk brake, rear disk, under seat exhaust etc.

A good engine configuration (possibly CBR 150 one) would definitely give strong competition to the likes of Yamaha R15.

BMW 118d & 123d Convertible go on sale

Two of BMW’s most popular diesel engines are now available in the 1 Series Convertible. BMW’s most economical four-cylinder diesel engine ever and the award-winning twin –turbocharged unit are a timely introduction for new car buyers seeking open-air motoring but are worried about rising fuel costs.

The 118d Convertible is powered by a 1,995cc single turbocharged engine producing 143hp and 300Nm of torque. This results in a zero BMW-118d-Convertibleto 62mph time of 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 129mph. Most impressive though is the 118d Convertible’s ability to record a combined consumption figure of 57.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 129g/km. This means the vehicle, courtesy of BMW’s EfficientDynamics technologies, is the most economical and least polluting convertible car in its class.

For those customers demanding greater performance the 123d Convertible comes with a 1,995cc twin-turbocharged engine producing 204hp and 400Nm of torque. This propels the 123d Convertible from zero to 62mph in 7.5 seconds before going on to a top speed of 143mph. It too comes with all the facets of EfficientDynamics and thus records a combined consumption figure of 52.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 144g/km – again the lowest compared to any competitor product.

Both models come as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. The BMW 118d Convertible is priced from £23,660 OTR, while the BMW 123d Convertible starts at £28,105 OTR.

Seven-speed double clutch transmission slots into 3 Series:
The BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible are now available with a seven-speed double clutch transmission for enhanced performance and economy. The new gearbox, which applies similar technology to that used in an M3 equipped with M DCT, is now offered on the 335i Coupé and Convertible models. It improves performance and economy by splitting the gearbox into the two assemblies, each with their own clutch. This way as the revs build or decrease in the current gear another one is already selected. A near seamless transition in gears and power is thus achieved benefitting both acceleration and consumption. The DCT gearbox is offered as a £1,640 option.

News of the new gearbox comes as the new six-cylinder 2,993cc diesel engine announced for the new 3 Series Saloon and Touring models is offered in the Coupé range. Now the BMW 330d Coupé is powered by a 245hp powerplant, 14hp more than the previous engine, and 520Nm of torque, 20 Nm more than before. The upgrade in performance means the 330d Coupé achieves zero to 62mph in 6.0 seconds compared to 6.6 seconds previously, while also being capable of 49.6mpg on the combined cycle (Vs 46.3mpg) and emissions of 152g/km (Vs. 160g/km).

X3 production reaches half million mark:
The 500,000th BMW X3 has rolled off the production line at Magna Steyr, in Graz, Austria. BMW’s compact Sports Activity Vehicle has followed in the X5’s wheel tracks to become the second X model in the BMW product range to pass the half million milestone. To date a total of more than 1.25 million X models have been sold worldwide, confirming the international success story of these benchmark vehicles.

This milestone has passed at the same time the nomenclature of the X3 and X5 ranges changes to mirror that of the X6. Now, for example, the 3.0-litre diesel-powered X3 will be referred to as the BMW X3 xDrive30d. Every other X3 model will follow this format with the last two digits and letter denoting which engine is used.

New BMW X3 models announced:
Two special edition BMW X3s are now available in the UK. The BMW X3 xDrive20d SE Edition Premium and the BMW X3 xDrive20d SE Edition Exclusive come with additional equipment as standard compared to existing models. The Edition Premium adds uniquely-styled 17-inch light alloy wheels, chrome exhaust pipe and chrome kidney grille with graphite vertical slats, Space Grey metallic paint and matching interior trim. Pearlpoint cloth and leather upholstery is standard but can be upgraded to Nevada leather upholstery.

The BMW X3 xDrive20d SE Edition Exclusive comes with bespoke 18-inch light alloy wheels, chrome exhaust pipe and chrome kidney grille with graphite vertical slats, extended lighting, headlight wash and xenon headlights. To complete the package Mineral Green metallic paint, Nevada leather upholstery and a Light Walnut wood interior trim are standard.

The BMW X3 xDrive20d SE Edition Premium costs £30,345 OTR and the BMW X3 xDrive20d SE Edition Exclusive costs £31,925 OTR.

30 years of BMW M cars:
2008 marks the 30th anniversary of BMW M. Born from the M1 project of 1978 when the company built a mid-engined racing car to compete in a newly formed ProCar series, BMW M has since gone on to represent the pinnacle of performance BMWs.

Its adage of ‘From the race track to the road’ applies to the development of all its products. The BMW M3 is still the most successful touring car in history and this racing heritage is why M products remain popular with enthusiasts. Such demand is the reason BMW M recently delivered its 300,000th vehicle. The BMW M3 Coupé in Alpine White was presented to a customer in Regensburg, the home of M3 production.

Today BMW M cars account for around one percent of the BMW Group’s overall turnover worldwide with the USA, UK and Germany representing the three biggest markets.

Google Send to Car gets personal:
BMW’s innovative ConnectedDrive facility is now available with added capability courtesy of a link-up with Google. Customers who have specified their cars with navigation are able to use a new Google Send function to locate non-business addresses. The enhanced Google Send allows the driver to locate personal addresses as well as 750,000 business listings.

Google Send to Car allows the user to send the desired address straight through to the car’s navigation system from his or her office desk for added convenience, thus reducing the need to input navigation addresses manually. BMW is the only car manufacturer currently able to offer the bespoke Google function.

BMW wins more awards:
BMW has been presented with the Editor’s Award by What Car? magazine at its prestigious Green Awards held at London Motor Show. The marque scooped the honour for its widespread EfficientDynamics programme. It is the second time the car industry’s buying bible has commended the BMW product range for the advances engineers have made in performance, emissions and fuel consumption. What Car? awarded a similar accolade to BMW at its annual new car awards ceremony held in January, 2008.

BMW has also been presented with two honours in the 2008 Green Car Awards from the Environmental Transport Association. The BMW 520d won the Executive category and the BMW 320d the Large Family award for their EfficientDynamics derived low CO2 emissions figures and fuel consumption.

The Environmental Transport Association assessed over 1,300 cars on sale, examining their power, emissions, fuel efficiency and even the amount of noise produced to create a definitive ‘green’ buying guide for customers. Judges noted that BMW had achieved an 11 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions during the past 12 months with four BMW Group models making it into the top five ‘most improved category’.

The BMW 5 Series scooped the award for Best Executive car in the Fleet World Honours. The medium sized executive car beat other premium rivals to top spot on account of its driving dynamics, class-leading performance, consumption and emissions, and its comparative low running costs. The BMW 3 Series won Best Compact Executive car, the BMW X5 won Best SUV, while the BMW Group was presented with an industry-wide award for its EfficientDynamics programme.

BMW 118d sets new unofficial 24-hour record:
A new 24 hour record has been set in a BMW 118d. The team of drivers from BMW Car magazine took the current World Green Car of the Year on a pan-European endurance test to see what real-world performance figures could be achieved in the award-winning vehicle.

Their BMW 118d covered 1,461.9 miles in its 14 European country marathon, with the team recording an average speed of 71.6 mph, but using just 150 litres of fuel. The average consumption figure of 43.4 mpg was commendable despite some faster autobahn driving and high-gear mountain passes being negotiated en route.

The drive began in the UK and finished in the Czech Republic and the team nearly made it 15 countries but ran out of time only 50kms from the Polish border. The four-man crew consumed 12,000 calories in the form of sweets, snacks and fizzy drinks - next stop the dentist then…
Price adjustments across BMW model ranges:
The BMW range will be subject to a price increase in July 2008. The average price of cars increases by approximately one per cent. A full breakdown of the changes is outlined below.

World’s smallest four-seater car takes centre stage

The world’s smallest four-seater micro-car was unveiled by Toyota at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The ‘IQ’ prototype is just 9ft 9 inches long - about three inches shorter than the original Mini - and is expected in showrooms within two years priced between £9,000 and £10,000.

It has enough room for three adults and a small child, but a sliding seat arrangement means it can be driven as a two seater with added boot space.

MINI MARVEL: Toyota’s world’s snallest four-seater car

A Toyota spokesman said:’It’s the world’s smallest four seater car.’

It was one of a series of small and ‘green’ cars on display at the show where manufacturers were anxious to display their environmental technology.

Britain’s new Mini Clubman started production at BMW’s Oxford plant as the car was shown simultaneously for the first time in public at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

MINI MARVEL: Toyota’s world’s snallest four-seater car

Originally in production from 1969 to 1980, the Clubman will go on sale in the UK on November 11.

Its arrival will help BMW to produce a record 200,000-plus Minis in 2007, with production eventually expected to reach 240,000 annually.

BMW’s Oxford plant managing director Oliver Zipse said: “The new Mini Clubman is another milestone in the Mini success story.

“Our 6,800 highly-committed associates in the Mini production triangle plants in the UK (Oxford, Swindon and Hams Hall near Birmingham) have so far produced more than one million Minis since it was launched in 2001.

“With the launch of the Clubman, the third Mini derivative, we are expecting new production and sales records for Mini, which is great news for the UK automotive industry.”

Slightly bigger than the standard Mini, the Clubman comes in three versions, the £14,235 Cooper, the £15,400 Cooper D and the £17,210 Cooper S.

The new car is inspired not only by the original Clubman but by the Morris Mini Traveller and the Austin Mini Countryman, which were a feature of motoring in the 1960s.

Competitiveness Minister Stephen Timms, who was at Oxford for the start of production, said: “Today’s launch is a shining example of modern British manufacturing. I am sure the new Clubman will be a great hit.’

Also at Frankfurt, Korea’s Kia showed a new small £20,000 sports car called the Kee, created by the Peter Schreyer, the man who designed the iconic Audi TT.

Powered by a 2.7 litre V6 engine, it has a top speed of 140mph and can sprint from rest to 62mph in about eight seconds.

It signals the car companies ambitions to rise from being a budget car-maker like Skoda to an more up-market brand.

By contrast, looking like a cross between a Batmobile and a stealth bomber, Lamborghini launched its gas-guzzling £600,000 Reventon supercar which has a top speed of 211mph and can sprint from rest to 62mph in just 3.4 seconds.

Only 20 will be built for rich clients specialist collectors.

Former F1 world champion Michael Schumacher launched the new Ferrari 430 Scuderia which can sprint from rest to 62mph in under 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 198mph.

Hyundai i10 wins the’ Car of the Year 2008′ award

The Hyundai i10 has been tagged the ‘Indian Car of the Year 2008′ (ICOTY) at a glittering award function held in Mumbai.

Over the last two years, the awards have proved to be the benchmarks for auto excellence in India and are widely recognized as the most trusted word on automobiles for consumers, manufacturers and auto experts alike.

The most coveted of the Auto Awards, the ICOTY award has been instituted by all the prominent automotive magazines in the country such as Autocar India, Auto India, Business Standard Motoring, Car India, Overdrive and Top Gear, and the jury comprises of the senior most motoring journalists in India.

The purpose of the award is to recognise and choose the car which best symbolises quality, driveability and performance.

Expressing joy on receiving the award, H S Lheem, managing director of Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL), said, “We are delighted to be the winner of the most prestigious award – the Indian car of the Year and the choice of the discerning automotive media has clearly established the i10 as a world class car which meets all the global standards of safety, design and performance. The i10 will add to the Hyundai brand in India and consolidate its position as a leader in the compact car segment”.

Selection criteria
Factors such as fuel efficiency, ride, handling, safety, comfort, driver satisfaction and price were taken into consideration before the cars were ranked on a 25-point scale, where a maximum of 10 points was given to a car. The eligibility process also required that all competing cars were new models launched in the calendar year 2007.

Cars that were adaptations of existing models with mere cosmetic changes or those, for instance, with just engine and transmission swaps were not eligible. The car with the maximum points simply emerges as the winner.

Hyundai’s i10 has captured the whole gamut of prestigious Indian automobile awards. The car has received a total of four ‘Car of the Year’ awards from Business Standard Motoring, CNBC TV18 Autocar, NDTV Profit Car and Bike India, and Overdrive magazine. The car also swept the ‘Viewers’ Choice’ award bagging the Aaj Tak Viewers’ Choice awards as well as the ‘Small car of the Year’ by NDTV Profit Car & Bike India.

Since its launch in India on 31 October, 2007, the i10 has received an overwhelming response from not only the media but from car buyers across the globe as well. In the domestic market in India, it has sold over 45,000 units, while from its overseas market HMIL has received orders for around 72,000 units within a short span of 3 months since its European debut at the Bologna Motor Show in December, 2007.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea, presently markets 30 variants of passenger cars across segments in India. The Santro in the B segment, the Getz Prime and the i10 in the B+ segment, the Accent and the Verna in the C segment, the Sonata Embera in the E segment and the Tucson in the SUV segment.

The company registered total sales of 327,160 vehicles in the calendar year (CY) 2007, an increase of 9.2 per cent over CY 2006. In the domestic market, it clocked a growth of 7.6 per cent as compared to 2006 with 200,412 units, while overseas sales grew by 11.8 per cent, with exports of 126,748 units.

The Santro and the Accent also received the ‘TNS Voice of the Customer - 2008′ award for the premium compact car (Santro) and the entry mid size car (Accent).

Last year, the Hyundai Verna bagged some of the most prestigious awards starting with the title of “Car of the Year 2007″ by India’s leading automotive publication – Overdrive, the ”Best Mid-size Car of the Year” award by the NDTV Profit Car & Bike India Awards 2007, the ”Best Value for Money Car” by the CNBC Autocar Auto awards and ‘Performance Car of the Year 2007′ from Business Standard Motoring.

Hyundai’s cars have been a favorite at all awards ceremonies and have always been winning awards. Models such as the Sonata Embera won the ‘Executive Car of The Year 2006′ award from Business Standard Motoring Magazine, and NDTV Profit Car & Bike India declared the Tucson as the ‘SUV of The Year 2006′.

Yamaha FZ16 Review and Road Test

This is perhaps the most sensational bike release in India. People are excited about the Yamaha FZ16 more than any other bike launch in the history. Why? Because it is not the big bike which a common Indian youth can’t afford. And it is not the sports bike with big flaring and sexy but unmanly looks. FZ16 changes the definition of street biking, its daring, strong, aggressive and unique. Join with me into a journey of exploring the various features of Yamaha FZ16. This is an exclusive review meant only for the readers ofBikeAdvice!

Looks and Styling: A magazine writer who has reviewed this bike tells me that this is the best looking bike in India. But I do not agree. Each kind of biker has a different taste. Some like smooth lines and big flaring, while some like the aggressive, naked and bold looks. I prefer the latter! Yes, this bike is the best looking one in the muscle segment.

Let not the pictures mislead you. The bike looks much better in real. The size of the tank looks massive. Even though the real tank hides itself from the outer make up, no one would know! When I saw the bike for the first time, I felt as if it spoke to me, “Hey, look I am here”. Definitely a head turner for sure. Even the majestic Bullet will look small near this bike. And I am sure that when you park the bike in your college parking lot, Splendors, Stars and Discovers will think twice before parking near Yamaha FZ16.

You can’t help from noticing the macho tires that add to the boldness of the bike. The 140mm rear tyre is the biggest in India. MRF has made this radial tubeless tyre exclusively for the FZ16. The front tyre is of 100mm, very impressive. The short 1.5m exhaust pipe adds to the unique feeling of the bike.

No Indian bike has a head lamp shaped like the one in FZ16. Yamaha has always tried different head lamps with its bikes, and this one is a sure winner.

The dashboard is a little disappointing for me. Muscular bikes have analog meters. This one looks as if this is a toy bike. Sorry for the FZ16 lovers, but this is the part of the bike I don’t like. It features all digital stuff including tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge, trip and odometer.

The grip bars for the pillion does not look like one at all. Yamaha has tried something new with it, fortunately, it looks very cool! And look at the sharp edge of the tail… says something!

Performance: You cannot compare Yamaha FZ16 with the other premium bikes in India. The Karizma, Pulsars and R15s are for the long rides and sporty feel. But most of the Indians ride 90% of the time in city traffic. The 153cc engine of this bike is designed for the urban commute. The machine churns out 13.6 Nm of torque just at 6000 rpm. The broad tires, low center of gravity and high torque at low rpm makes it a celebration to drive in city traffic. I am sure that the so called big-bikers will be left behind once the signal turns green!

The bike covers the world standard 0-60 kmph sprint in just 5.5 seconds. The mid range thrust and the highly tuned throttle response are designed to give you the feel of a ultra-powerful bike in the urban ride. The maximum speed is 111kmph. As I said before, this bike is not for the long commutes. The seats are soft which is comfortable initially, but will yield and give you a pain in the ass if your drive for more than an hour. Strictly self start, no kicking anymore. I miss the kick. I used to kick my Karizma to start even though I had a self starter because I felt that only girls who do not have the kicking power would press a button with their thumb. But anyway, lets not blame Yamaha for that!

The open front gives you a good view of the vehicles going ahead and the broad tires help you twist and turn  with ease. You can easily do stunts with Yamaha FZ16 because of the superior mass centralization and broad tires. The 267mm diameter brakes assist in doing easy stoppies. Now you too can get such a pic for your online profile! The mileage figures are not the highlights, but it is still doing good. 40kmpl in city and 54kmpl in the highways.

Verdict: Throw away your sporty looking bikes which people call sports bikes. Get real, India needs a bike like this. The mono suspension is great and can be adjusted unlike R15, which helps you to tune according to the road conditions. You may not have the money to buy Harley Davidson, you may not want to work all your life to fill the tank with ever increasing fuel prices and you may not have all the strength to handle a Bullet, but you definitely have a choice of picking a red, flaming orange or black coloured Yamaha FZ16.

Pros:

  • Manly Looks
  • Broad & Tubeless Radial Tires
  • International Branding
  • Tuned for Urban Riding
  • First of its Kind in India
  • Competitive Pricing (Rs.65,000 Ex-showroom)
  • Six Free Services and 2-Year, 30,000 Km warranty

Cons:

  • Toyish Dashbaord with Full Digital Stuff. (Would have been better with dials)
  • Just three colour options
  • Could have provided disc brakes for the rear tires.

Specifications:

Displacement: 153cc
Engine: Air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC
Maximum Power: 14bhp@7500rpm
Maximum Torque: 13.6Nm@6000rpm
Gears: 5 Manual
